Online Nursing Programs Rise in National Rankings

The UNC Charlotte School of Nursing’s online master’s programs have jumped 13 spots in the 2019 U.S. News & World Report rankings and remain in the top 50% of programs nationally.

The programs ascended to 62 in the national rankings, up from 75 last year. “The School of Nursing is proud to see that its efforts to ensure a quality online education have been rewarded as our profile in the nursing community continues to rise,” said director Dr. Dena Evans.

The School of Nursing attributes the ranking to several factors, including:

  • A collaborative effort with UNC Charlotte Distance Education to support faculty in the development of online programs that subscribe to Quality Matters criteria, a national recognized, faculty-centered, peer review process designed to certify the quality of online courses and components;
  • Hiring, maintaining and developing excellent instructors. A large percentage of School of Nursing faculty members are Quality Matters Fellows or Quality Matters reviewers;
  • Consistent evaluation of online program offerings to ensure they meet the needs of communities of interest.

The factors align closely with those considered by U.S. News & World Report. To compile its rankings, the organization analyzes engagement, expert opinion, faculty credentials and training, services and technologies, and student excellence.
